Understanding the symptoms of sleep apnea

Sleep apnea is a very serious sleep disorder that affects more than 18 million sleeping Americans. It is a condition in which a person’s breathing is continuously interrupted during sleep. The cessation of breathing can last from 10 seconds to 60 seconds and occur more than a few times a night. If you can’t breathe properly at night and wake up breathless, you probably have sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea deprives the body of sleep and also oxygen. If left untreated, it will get worse and could be life-threatening.

There are some common symptoms of sleep apnea that you should be aware of. The most obvious symptom is a constant feeling of sleepiness throughout the day and an inability to concentrate on your work. Some seriously ill patients may even fall asleep while talking to someone. The main reason for this is due to continuous interrupted sleep throughout the night.

The other symptoms of sleep apnea include profuse sweating during sleep, gasping or choking, unusually loud snoring, and frequently waking up suddenly to catch your breath.

Aside from that, some sleep apnea side effects can also affect your daily lifestyle. Due to the slight

increased circulating acid in your body because your digestive system is not resting at night, some people with sleep apnea may get heat burns in the morning. As a result of lack of concentration, you can also lose interest in many things, including sex. There is also the possibility of having high blood pressure.

If you have the symptoms of sleep apnea listed above, it is very likely that you have sleep apnea. Never take it lightly as it could be life threatening. Get it treated right away.
