Brown Flying Bugs Call Your Cat’s Litter Home

Do flies fly around kitty litter? It is a rare problem but it can happen. It can cause behavioral problems with your cat and cause your cat to rebel against using the cat litter box. So what can you do to get rid of the plague of flies? Well I’ll tell you:

  1. Your first line of defense is the kitty litter itself. You should go get some clay cat litter. Insects generally hate clay, because it is very fine and does not allow them to hide or dig easily.
  2. If you have any rotten fruit, food or a dirty sink, clean it all up and throw it away, make sure you don’t just throw it in the household trash, make sure you take the trash outside. Why should you do this? Since rotten food is what flies eat and where they breed, then you are basically taking away their food source and breeding sites.
  3. If you have an infestation of fruit flies, use this little trick to get rid of them: Gather a bowl, some vinegar, and some plastic wrap. Now put some vinegar in the container and cover it with the plastic wrap. Now make some holes in the plastic wrap. Fruit flies love vinegar, so they’ll get into the container but won’t be able to get out.
  4. If you have mosquitoes then what you can do is get some fly strips and place them where you have soil in your house (indoor plants) and near the kitty litter.
  5. If you follow these steps, you should see a huge decrease in flies. If there are still a lot of flies flying around the kitty litter, you should take your cat to the vet, just to be safe.

Good luck.
