Business websites that just don’t work

If you are a business owner with a website, you will most likely read this and say “that’s about me”.

Business owners, having been told they must have an internet presence, will spend large amounts of money designing a website, only to find out a few months later that it’s doing nothing.

It does not attract additional traffic, customers, sales or profits to the business.

How frustrating is that? You have this lovely looking website that has taken a huge chunk of your marketing budget and yet absolutely nothing happens.

You go back to the guy who designed and built your website and ask him what the problem is, but you can’t get a definitive answer. It is not the fault of the website designer, as he has done the job that was asked of him. He knows how to build a great site but not how to market it.

This is the problem with the vast majority of business websites. They just don’t work.

The good news is that in most cases this problem can be resolved.

By analyzing the site itself and the market, a plan can be developed to gradually improve the website so that it puts the products or services in front of potential customers.

The starting point would be to analyze the keywords that people are using when searching for the product(s) or service(s). This would include an analysis of the main competitor websites to see if there are any additional keywords that they are using.

Once keywords have been identified, existing and new website pages should be optimized so that search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.) have the best possible chance of finding them and liking what they find .

The next stage is to create a buzz on the site. Although optimizing the physical structure of the site will greatly improve its original performance, that is not enough. A number of search engine optimization techniques will need to be implemented over a period of time to improve the positions of website pages in search engine rankings.

This process will drastically improve the chances of your business websites doing the job they were originally designed to do.

The next step should be to find additional ways to promote the business through the website and by using additional online and offline marketing methods.
