Ceramic Tile Vs Faux Ceramic Tile

Faux Ceramic Tile

Between ceramic and porcelain, which one is better? This is a question asked by many home owners with different ideas about home improvement and what they prefer. Both ceramics and porcelains are made of fired clay, which is known for its excellent hardness and resistance. But the main difference between these two materials lies in their temperature range. Ceramic comes from early days of Chinese civilization, while porcelain came from the Italian Renaissance era. During the 18th century, porcelain was improved by the introduction of a new technology called the vulcanizing process which gave birth to the so-called ceramic products or pottery.

So, what’s the answer? Both ceramic tiles and porcelain are popular in homes for their striking beauty and versatility. While porcelain tile is more expensive than ceramic tile, many homeowners go for porcelain tile due to its durability. Besides, it’s more versatile since it can be used in different areas of a home, while ceramic tiles need a special cement for installation. Therefore, what’s the secret to decide between ceramic vs porcelain tile?

Ceramic Tile Vs Faux Ceramic Tile

Water-resistant tiles are usually made from a combination of materials like ceramic wood tile and porcelain tiles. Wood fibers from cottonwood tree are combined with other materials such as silica to create water-resistant tiles. These water-resistant tiles are highly desirable, since they can resist stains and leaks. Compared to ceramic tiles, water-resistant porcelain tiles have the highest level of durability, but they can also get damaged easily. Nevertheless, water-resistant tiles are still highly preferred by some homeowners because they can resist mold and mildew. Thus, if you want to invest on high-end flooring materials, consider using a water-resistant ceramic wood tile.

Porcelain tiles are made from milled clay particles. These clay particles are heated at high temperature until they reach a certain point that they become malleable. When this point is reached, the milled clay particles are manually poured into molds, which then produce ceramic tiles. Porcelain tile is highly durable compared to ceramic wood tile, which needs frequent re-tinting.

On the other hand, feldspar is a natural material which can only be manipulated and fired at a much lower temperature. This material is usually combined with clay to produce different textures and designs. Although porcelain tile can have the same high quality finish as feldspar, they are not as durable. But if you prefer a more natural look and feel, you may want to choose porcelain tile over feldspar.
