Doberman Pinscher: pros and cons of having this amazing pet

Learn the pros and cons of having a Doberman Pinscher as a pet

When considering a Doberman Pinscher as a pet, you may be concerned that this dog has a reputation for a fierce disposition. This can be especially disconcerting when he has children in his home. The fact is that you can never be sure what kind of attitude your dog will have towards children or other family members unless they are properly trained. In this article, I will cover the pros and cons of owning this amazing breed of dog.

Advantages:

Contrary to popular belief, the Doberman is no longer as aggressive as it once was. Today, a Doberman pinscher can be just as affectionate and friendly as your average dog. The dog can be treated as a member of the family and this can help make the dog more loving and affectionate as well as playful. If you have time to train the dog, it will be easier to handle.

With proper training, your Dobe pet is a very social puppy or dog. They will require a high level of interaction with all humans and family members to stay happy in their home environment. Someone in the family needs to pay special attention to them every day to make sure they understand that they are part of the family.

Many reports state that Dobermans make excellent dogs for families where there are young children in the home, as long as they are introduced and raised together. A large number of people have experienced fantastic relationships between their children and their Dobermans.

When you are training your dog, also keep in mind that your children and other family members should be trained on how to treat a Doberman. If everyone is informed and trained together, chances are good that you will have a great relationship with your dog or puppy for years to come. The most important part of training your pet is making sure he knows that you are the leader of the pack and you will find that he tends to learn quite easily.

Cons:

Doberman Pinschers are playful by nature and because they may be larger than your child, they could inadvertently play a little rough when it comes to fighting with them. That’s why it’s important to raise the dog and children together while teaching them to respect each other. If you have a puppy or child that hasn’t had any training, you may have a hard time teaching the child or dog where they each cross the line. Keep this in mind when considering a Doberman Pinscher as a pet.

Although these dogs love children, there are times when they think of them as their own and can be overly protective. Make a quick move towards one of his children and you might find yourself in trouble, as the pet can become quite aggressive. This was the problem with my brother-in-law’s Dobe and they eventually had to find him another home.

Friends who may visit your home are often concerned about whether or not your pet Dobe is vicious, which may deter friends from coming over until they understand that your pet is not a threat to their children or themselves. This is also a trap 22 because while friends can stay away until they know the difference, prowlers or thieves can be just as cautious when looking for a house to break into.

One problem that can be serious is that since a Doberman is easily startled, your pet may often be stressed or shy. He tries not to make quick or threatening movements around his pet so as not to create a stressful environmental situation for them. The more they are around you, the more used they will be to you and will eventually take most of your moves in stride.

All in all, a Doberman Pinscher makes a good family dog, especially if raised with the family. I think a female might be better if you have small children as they probably won’t be as aggressive when babysitting. They are easy to train when you have established that you are the leader of the pack.
