How to write a blog post that is easy to read

Do you know how to write a blog post? Maybe. But most people get it wrong and wonder why they fail online. There are millions of blogs online and your blog is just another blog unless you have something unique to contribute.

Most bloggers will paste a poorly formatted block of text in hopes of getting a subscriber or making a sale.

Looking at a post that looks like a thesis paper gives me hives! The written word is the most powerful form of communication on the Internet, but you must make it easy to read.

Just like a gourmet meal that was lovingly prepared and is easy on the eye, the same should be true for your blog posts.

Here are some helpful tips for creating a well-written, easy-to-read blog post:

1. Your title is everything!

Which one catches you:

A. Get my free traffic report: sign up here

B. Take advantage of my proven traffic strategies to drive tons of traffic to YOUR website!

Your headline is the first thing people will see when they visit your blog.. Lay out the welcome mat! Write catchy post titles that will make your visitors want to know more!

Use a title that grabs your readers’ interest and makes them want to continue. Your headline should lead them to know what the post is about. The biggest mistake you can make with a blog post is to write a juicy, catchy blog post title and then dribble them into the body of the blog post.

That’s like someone promising you an ice cold mug of ice cold beer and getting a headless glass of warm beer.

You must keep your promise in your post.

2. The long and the short

Do you know how to write a blog post that gets read? Here’s a secret: use shorter blog titles! Readers tend to skim and if you present them with a long, drawn-out blog post title, they may lose interest. Shorter titles generally have more impact. Sometimes, however, your headline will need to be longer to get your point across. If that’s the case, cut to the chase at the beginning of your headline.

For example:

A. I want to share some of my secrets to keyword research

3. Break those paragraphs!

Nothing is more annoying than trying to read a blog post that is nothing more than a large block of text. Your paragraphs should not have more than 2 or 3 lines.

4. Use images to tell your story

You loved looking at picture books as a child and things haven’t changed. People love photos and images because they embellish what you are writing about. Images help tell your story and are visually appealing. They also help draw the reader’s attention to the page and keep them interested. Be generous with your photos and images and your readers will love you for it!

5. Grab ’em with lists

People love lists, and they’re a great way to organize the key points of your post.

For example:

What you’ll need: flour, butter, sugar, cocoa, milk, pastry brush, nonstick spray, 12×12 rectangular baking sheet, foil mixing bowl, wire whisk, measuring spoons, measuring cups, scraper

Lists tend to communicate more effectively and organize your points into an easy to read list.

6. To make bold or not to make bold

Using bold text not only highlights the important key points of your blog post, but also breaks up the text visually. i love to wear bold text and italics to convey my point of view on certain posting points.

7. Your call to action

One of the most IMPORTANT keys to how to write a blog post is: You MUST tell your readers what to do next in your post. Ask them to take some kind of action.

Your call to action can be anything.

  • Invite them to leave a comment so you can get their thoughts on your blog post.
