Miami Dolphins struggle with 2009 start

The Miami Dolphins were the good story of the 2008 NFL season. The team finished with a 1-15 regular season record in 2007 and was written off as arguably the worst football team of the decade. Things weren’t looking much brighter heading into the 2008 season, nor were they looking much better for Chad Pennington.

Anyway, the Dolphins somehow came together and became the Cinderella football team of 2008.
The Dolphins rode the wave of enthusiasm in the 2009 season and expected big things from an improved offense that would look to enjoy another successful football season.

Unfortunately, things started off on a bleak note for the Dolphins. Losing by 12 points to the Falcons in Atlanta was a blow to the team, even though Atlanta was the favorite to win the game. The Dolphins were still hoping for a better result. No team wants to add 7 points in its season opener.

Seven points scored in one game against an average Falcons defense raised questions about the Dolphins’ offense and its effectiveness. Plus, all of the AFC East teams are looking good, making things even more competitive for Miami this season. The Jets, the Bills and, naturally, the New England Patriots have all made bold statements and look strong in the regular season.

The Dolphins’ Week 2 matchup didn’t fare much better, as a disheartening loss during the final minutes of the game dropped the team to 0-2. The Colts are a tough opponent, but the Dolphins were in dire need of that win. Better luck next week perhaps?
