Watch Anime Online: System Requirements Checklist

Watching anime in front of television is gradually becoming a thing of the past. With today’s innovation called the Internet, you can watch your favorite anime anytime, anywhere you want. Most people, however, would ask what the system requirements are for watching online videos. Below is a checklist of system requirements for you to watch anime online.

Memory: Your computer’s memory will serve as storage space for compressed video before decompressing and viewing it. Such compressed video stored in your computer’s random access memory (RAM) is shaped as a buffer that determines how smooth the video will play. Although there is no real system requirement when it comes to memory, the general rule of thumb is that the more RAM you have, the more information you can store in it. For most operating systems, 4GB of memory should be sufficient to store compressed videos when viewed online.

Processor r This is an important part of your computer when it comes to watching online videos. The speed of the processor affects the decompression speed of the compressed video, which will determine the quality of the playback. For PC users, the recommended processor speed for watching online videos is 1.2 GHz. Mac users, on the other hand, should have a processor clocked at 1.83 GHz.

Browser r In addition to checking your memory and processor, you should also check your browser. There are different browsers that you can use depending on your operating system. You may have more than one browser installed on your system, but you will have to use only one when watching a video. PC users can choose from the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer, while Mac users can choose between Safari and Opera.

Internet connection r All other system requirements will not be sufficient unless you have the recommended Internet connection speed. Also known as pipeline, the speed of the Internet connection can be determined by bandwidth. You should check the actual bandwidth of your system, not what your internet provider advertises. To view online content in pleasant resolution without lag, your computer must constantly have a bandwidth of at least 2 Mbps.

Note that this recommended speed only applies to cable and DSL connections. Online streaming is nearly impossible with a dial-up connection, as the transfer of video content takes forever to complete. If you have a wireless connection, it will be best if you connect your system to your router or modem via Ethernet or USB cable. Before watching anime online, check who else is using the internet connection. Their activity is likely to affect your streaming as they are also consuming a portion of the bandwidth.
