Wet Upholstery Tips: Why You Should Get A Spill Proof Dog Bowl

I have my dog and I love taking my dog on the road. I love letting her run, exploring new places, and feeling the cool breeze in an open field. Of course, that means I always have to carry a lot of water. Unfortunately, I also love my car and prefer to keep it clean. It never occurred to me that the seemingly small amount of water that dripped from the Tupperware container, when I turned a corner or hit a pothole, would make more than a small amount of mess. Trust me, there is more clutter than you think.

Since I love keeping my car clean, I always try to be diligent at least in trying to towel dry the upholstery or wipe as much water as possible from the seats. Thinking everything was fine, I kept taking my dog out, kept giving him water, and kept fooling myself into thinking I was cleaning up the mess properly. Well, it wasn’t long and I started noticing a pretty nasty smell in my car … even when the dog wasn’t in it! It was mold.

If you run into this problem, do the following:

  1. Locate all moldy areas. If you tend to place your dog’s bowl in the same spot over and over again, this shouldn’t be too difficult. However, be sure to sniff just in case and look behind the fabric, under the seat, and look for any stains.
  2. Ventilate the car. Open all the doors and try to get that moisture out of your car.
  3. Depending on the degree of mold, buy a mold cleaner or use a mixture of water and vinegar. Follow the instructions carefully if you have purchased a mold cleaner; Otherwise, spray the moldy surface and scrub well. Make sure you wear rubber gloves and a mask for this, that mold is not good for you. Also, be sure not to get the upholstery too wet during cleaning, as it will get moldy again.
  4. Park your car outside if it’s sunny and a little windy, this will dry it out in no time. If not, use a shop vacuum or wet / dry vacuum to remove all excess.

Now if this hasn’t happened to you yet, you’re in luck. Save yourself the trouble and find a spill-proof dog bowl. I recently bought one and my life has changed since then. A spill-proof dog bowl may seem like an unnecessary purchase, but it saves gloves, masks, cleaning solution, and time.
