Exploring ancient cities of the world

One of the most underrated parts of a luxury trip, whether local or in another country, is the part where you explore the ancient ruins, formations or buildings of a particular destination. For some tourists, this is that segment of their getaway that they at least look forward to, but still opt for because it’s part of their all-inclusive trip. What we often overlook is the part that seeing these destinations with the naked eye gives us an idea of what life was like before. We hope to do justice to some of the most magnificent and historically rich cities in the world.

Machu Picchu, in Peru. The ruins of this ancient Inca civilization are generally touted for their dark and mysterious beauty. While it’s true that the ruins are beautiful (after all, Inca is best known for its enigmatic walls), it’s the things we don’t see that make it more interesting. A word of advice: To better appreciate your trip to this ancient city, schedule a tour of its secret museum, the Museo de Sitio Manuel Chávez Ballón. Make sure you have this as an add-on trip if it’s not part of your all-inclusive travel deals.

Angkor Wat in Cambodia. The sacred temples of this city are only part of the package of what is one of the most magnificent destinations in the world. This historical site built hundreds upon hundreds of years ago was dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, and must have been highly favored by the gods due to its utter perfection in terms of balance and proportion. With its beauty, Angkor Wat has really fulfilled one of its purposes, which is to become a model of the cosmic world on Earth.

Mont Saint-Michel in France. Speaking of beautiful places of worship, this impressive building on the border of France is also a contender. In ancient times, the monks sought a secluded place, preferably elevated, to be able to get physically close to God. The abbey on top of this “mountain” is where the Archangel Michael is believed to have led a bishop to build a church so tall and mighty, resulting in this impressive church.

Teotihuacan in Mexico. In this ancient city, you’ll find pyramids that are just as wonderfully spooky as the ones at Giza. In fact, one of them, the Pyramid of the Sun, has approximately the same base as the Great Pyramid of Cheops. In addition to the outstanding architecture, these structures are also proof of how vast the astronomical knowledge of the ancient peoples of Mexico is. The Pyramid of the Sun is located in the center of all other structures, interestingly reflecting the Solar System.
