Amicalola Falls State Park, located near Dawsonville, is one of the most popular parks in Georgia. Amicalola means “falling water” in Cherokee. The freshwater fall that is over 700 feet long is the longest waterfall east of the Mississippi River. This park has accommodations from campsites and cabins to a modern motel on top of a mountain. For the energetic family, this park offers an eight and a half mile hiking trail to the top of the waterfall.
Historic Native American landmarks such as Kolomoki Mounds Historical Park and Etowah Indian Mounds Park will offer insight into early Americans. Early American history buffs will find many Georgia parks to their liking.
The Savannah Historic District, located in Savannah, offers a glimpse of what life was like during the Civil War in Georgia. The Jefferson Davis Memorial Historical Park allows visitors to see a different side of the Civil War.
