If we can

Barrack Obama became the first African American to become President of the United States. Adams Oshiomole became the first Nigerian to become Nigeria’s state governor after contesting the April 2007 election, without any re-election. This was after the ruling of the Court of Appeals and Electoral Petitions that revoked the supposed election of the ex-governor.

What lessons can we learn from these two people on their road to success?

Success does not come overnight
Both have come a long way. Barrack Obama rose to fame in the year 2004 after delivering a speech during John Kerry’s run for President of the United States. Adams Oshiomole left his mark when he was president of the Nigerian Labor Congress a few years ago. Both did not achieve overnight success.

hard work is rewarding
Barrack Obama, during his campaigns, worked very hard going from place to place and delivering what could be called world class speeches. Adams Oshiomole also went directly into communities during his campaigns. They were not lazy people who just sat around and did nothing.

Diligence, tenacity and determination are essential for success.
Barrack Obama was African American and naturally people were against his candidacy, but he was determined to do and achieve what no other African American had ever done or achieved before. He met the challenges that came his way with tenacity and was diligent. Adams Oshiomole was not someone who could be referred to as a natural politician. He wasn’t even a longtime member of the platform he competed on. However, with diligence, stubbornness and determination, he overcame all challenges to become a state governor in Nigeria.

Tough people outlast hard times
If you ask these two people a few questions about their rise, you’re bound to hear about some tough times they went through, but they survived the tough times.

Confidence comes before success
They were both very confident. Barack Obama was so confident that he had already set up a venue, so to speak, for victory celebrations even before he was announced as president-elect. From the way Adams spoke, you would have noticed the confidence in his voice or his speech. He was so confident that he contested the initial election results and ultimately won.

Integrity is a must
Barrack Obama and Adams Oshiomole never had a period of controversy during their journey to success. You never heard of any of them being involved in one scandal or the other. You never knew that they committed any crime and believe me, if there was such a situation, their opponents would have capitalized on that.

Failure is not an option
If you had asked them what they would do if they failed, chances are they would have told you that they weren’t going to fail.

The previous lessons can be absorbed in our Internet business. We should not expect to succeed overnight. I have been on the internet since 2006 and never made any money from the business until 2008. Of course, with a Mentor, you can achieve success faster, but definitely not overnight. Hard work, diligence, stubbornness, determination, toughness and confidence are also very essential if we are going to make it. Integrity is also very important. I read a post about someone requesting Google Ads on their website, or is it a blog? to click. That is not a sign of integrity. Nor should we take failure as an option. We may fail in one way or another, but that does not make us a failure.

Let me borrow a page from Barrack Obama’s speech, can we learn from the above lessons and become a force to be reckoned with in internet business? Can we conduct our business with a high level of integrity to the point that we can begin to be trusted? Can we start creating world-class products and selling at premium, competitive prices? Can we start contributing to the well-being of newbies by getting them on the right track instead of just selling them stuff and expecting them to do all the work themselves? To all these questions I say a resounding “Yes, we can”. Again, I say “Yes you can”
