Will lunar colony populations ever send their athletes to Earth to compete in the Olympics?

For anyone who has seen the 2012 Olympics in London, we have to admit that you are uniting nations in a common cause and showcasing human excellence, sportsmanship, and the need to live for success. I think these are wonderful attributes for human beings and it’s really good to see them. As a former athlete, I would like to see the Olympics more often, not just every four years. The Olympic Games have a long historical tradition and have you ever wondered what they will be like in the future?

What happens when we have colonies living on our Moon, Mars, or the moons of other planets? Will athletes from those colonies return to earth to participate in the Olympic Games? Under what flag could they compete if the colonies are made up of people from all nations? At some point, such people will live without a nation, or they will regard their colony as a separate nation universally of their own. We need to provide a way to get those people back down to earth to compete, if they can. When I say that, I mean that since they will be living in different abodes of gravity, under different circumstances, they may not be able to compete as well once they are on Earth, due to all the changes.

For the most part, at least in the nearby colonies there will be less gravity and therefore their bones and muscles will not be strong, making it more difficult for them to compete. Do we give them a handicap? That doesn’t seem to be in the Olympic spirit or historical tradition. What about the many types of sports that do not require superior athletic ability, but are more skills of the mind and are based on precision? How about archery, for example? A person in a lunar colony, if he is in a closed environment that is established at the same atmospheric pressure with similar densities of gases and air, could compete very well.

Perhaps, while they are back on Earth, they will simply adjust their target a few inches up to cope with the difference in gravity. After two weeks of training on the ground and having made that adjustment, they were able to compete very well. In fact, I think that if you sit down, close your eyes, and think about all the different sports that humanity competes for in the Olympics, you will find that there are many sports in which the lunar colonists or people who live in a colony of Mars could compete. . So I ask you to consider all of this and think about it.
